“ARE Y’ALL POOR?”

Today, we are living in desperate times. Yet, the church is not desperate before God in prayer.

—CHUCK SMITH1.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder—at least that is what they taught me.

Sometimes you have to rent before you buy. This is not bad; it is a part of life. I’ll never forget—Karen and I were 19 and newly married. We were thrilled about our little house we were able to rent. To others it may not have meant much, but to us it was our home. It was off the main road down a step driveway tucked behind another house surrounded by unkempt bushes and trees. Nobody knew there was a house down there. The outside wasn’t all that great—it badly needed to be painted, and kudzu vines had overtaken nearly the entire front of the house, growing wild. To me, it was extra insulation. Sometimes you have to look at the glass as half full. It had a dirt basement that I discovered to my surprise had snakes in it. Plus, there was little to no grass and the house was kind of smelly. Other than all of that, it was great! The positives were that we had running water, electricity, and a roof over our heads! We rented this house for an outrageous amount of $200 a month.

Karen and I made the best of the situation and worked hard to make it our home. However, the reality of our living condition was exposed by my nephew who came to visit us for the day. Two things happened—first, he survived the drive down our driveway; second, he got out of the car and looked at the house and then looked at Karen and the first words out of his mouth were, “Aunt Karen, are y’all poor?”

There is nothing like a reality check, and boy did we get it that day.

Currently, there are over 45 million rental households in the United States. Sometimes in the natural it is necessary to rent before you own your home. This is not bad. You rent until your hard work, discipline, and fiscal responsibility allow you to have enough money to purchase a home.

RENTING A MOVE OF GOD

We cannot buy the presence or the power of God. However, it is possible to rent a move of God for a few days. How do you rent a move of God? It’s easy. As we discovered above, renting is cheaper than owning and the responsibilities are quite different as well. While renting you have very little responsibility other than a monthly rental fee. The owner is liable for major repairs and upkeep of the house.

Here is how church leadership can rent a move of God. You discover what type of movement you want in your church then you search for the person who carries that anointing—prophetic, evangelistic, healing, teaching, etc. You make a phone call and request if they are available to minister at your church. As advertised, the individual brings their anointing and
